Low maintenance is Springwell's biggest advantage. Here's the full schedule.
One of the Springwell CF1's strongest selling points is its minimal maintenance. Here's exactly what needs replacing, when, and how much it costs.
| 5-micron sediment pre-filter | Every 6–9 months — or when you notice a pressure drop |
| Main media (KDF + catalytic carbon) | Every 1,000,000 gallons — typically 8–10 years |
| Annual cost | ~$40/year (sediment filters only) |
At 100 gallons per day (generous for most households), 1,000,000 gallons takes over 27 years. In practice, Springwell says 8–10 years accounting for heavier use. Most homeowners never replace the main media — they may upgrade to a newer system before the media is exhausted.
| Media bed (greensand) | Every 8–10 years under normal use |
| Control valve service | Every 3–5 years — Springwell recommends inspection |
| Automatic backwash | Daily — fully automatic, no action needed |
| Annual cost | ~$0 (backwash uses water, no consumables) |
The CF1 uses a standard 4.5" × 20" filter housing. Many third-party 5-micron sediment cartridges are compatible and available for less than Springwell's branded filters. Verify the dimensions before purchasing.
